Favourite Fall Essentials: Home Edition

Hello, Lovelies!

I hope you are all doing well! Today we are chatting all things Autumn & cozy! This is my favourite time of the year for many reasons - most of which revolve around the cozy comforts that come along with it! I thought it would be fun to share a list of my ABSOLUTE favourite Fall essentials, starting with the home! Now, I ALWAYS like to change up my home set-up/décor seasonally, but this year I think it is especially important for anyone who has had to create their own home office in light of the Pandemic.

Being stuck in the same room of your house all day can be dreary, so take a little extra time and care this season to make your space a cozy reflection of all things that bring you joy and happiness. It will help boost your mood and productivity while working from home, and make you feel just that little bit more excited for the uncertain holiday season ahead of us.

Here we gooooo!

1 - Autumnal Candles

Bath and Body Works are the obvious staple. Believe me, I love them just as much as everyone BUT there are so many other affordable, cozy options too! You will start to see the trend soon enough throughout this post, but honestly, Homesense is my go-to to shop for all of my home decor, regardless of season.

One of my favourite things to shop for at Homesense is Candles. They usually have DW Home candles which are my all-time favourite! I have yet to find a candle from this brand that I don’t absolutely LOVE! One of my favourite scents by them this time of year is their Teakwood and Musk - it us smokey, and warm and delicious.

2 - Cozy Throws

If I had to pick only one thing to have as a Fall essential it would be a cozy throw. Yes, I have blankets around my home year round, BUT as soon as it gets to be a bit cooler out I really go overboard. I love sitting on the couch and cozying up to a good movie whilst cocooned in anything plush and soft. This time of year, everything is just a little colder and having a cozy throw in all your rooms will result in the ultimate comfort on those chilly days.

3 - Decorative Pillows

YES… I KNOW. Decorative pillows seem to be a bit of a controversy - you either love them or hate them. I am a lover when it comes to pillows EVERYWHERE and while this might not be for everyone, I find it especially comforting during the cooler months of the year. We spend so much more time indoors during the fall, especially if you are working from home now. It is so important to establish a comfortable, happy place outside (or within) your home office where you can relax, detach from work and stress, and just snuggle up. Being an avid reader, I find it useful having extra little pillows around to make it easier to find comfortable position whilst diving into a good book.

Another Homesense favourite of mine is the pillow aisle. This time of year especially, they are stocked with so many lovely chunky knit, autumnal pillows that are so soft and cozy that it just makes me want to jump right into the shelves!

4 - Pumpkins

Whether they are ceramic, plastic, glass, knit or REAL, decorative pumpkins are just way too fun to pass up this time of year! Autumn is such a short season, so why not maximize the festive fall feels while you can? I personally am a big fan of having little mini fresh pumpkins around the house, but there are so many cute decorative ones you can get if fresh isn’t the right fit for you!

More than just lying around the house, these little ones can be a fun activity or family bonding night to decorate! I LOVE painting and it is super fun to paint little pumpkins to fill your home with happiness! It is a great way to spend some quality time with loved ones, or to enjoy a relaxing night alone. Either way, you have fun and have something beautiful to add warmth to your home all fall long. Pinterest has some ADORABLE inspiration for pumpkin painting if you decide to give it a try!

5 - Cute Door Mats/Entrance

This is a random one but there is nothing more fun than a festive, cozy entrance way when you come home in the fall! There is so much you can do with an otherwise boring and empty part of your home - from harvest to Halloween, there is so much beautiful and fun décor out there! Like things simple and rustic? Opt for a little hay bale, some pumpkins and a little plaid door mat. Prefer spooky season? Add some cobwebs, lights, and a few ghosts here and there! It is a simple, fun way to add some festivity to your home this year.

6 - Fall Hand Towels

Okay… this one really makes me feel like a 90 year old and also falls under the random department but I honestly can’t help it. Since living on my own, my kitchen is my happy place. It is honestly bizarre how something as simple and small as switching out hand towels to match the season can warm up your home and add that personal touch. This is a super affordable way to make your space your own and explore a little more freely.

7 - Tea Lights

I know this is similar to candles which I already mentioned above but they deserve a category of their own. While large, fall-scented candles are great, there is nothing more romantic and cozy than some simple tea lights or votives. Placing them around your house will help add warmth and light to any space. I personally love lining them along the fire place, having them on the kitchen table to light during dinners, and having a few on my desk while I am working as well.

8 - Fairy Lights

As the days get shorter and we start to loose the sun it is important to keep extra lights around the house. A simple and affordable way to amp up the light and cozy-factor of any space in your home is by adding some adorable little fairy lights! You can string them through drapes, around your headboard, around the fireplace, or anywhere in-between! Wherever they make you happy they belong! I recommend just ordering these guys on Amazon or through Indigo as they always have lots of amazing options!

9 - Extra-Large Mugs

This one goes without explanation - especially if you have been a reader for awhile and know my addiction to tea and hot chocolate. Which ever one it is, it has to be EXTRA-LARGE this time of year. Making sure your cupboard is stocked with some lovely, bowl-sized mugs when the colder months hit is a necessity, in my opinion. I honestly will not reach for anything smaller on a cool, fall morning!

10 - Wreaths

A classic addition to any front door this time of year is a beautiful, autumnal wreath! You can buy a gorgeous, pre-designed one OR have some fun and get crafty making your own! It is super affordable to go to the dollar store and pick out some lovely little bits to design your own, or even pick up some pine cones and dried leave on your next walk around your neighborhood. No matter what, you will smile every time you come home and see your front door!
